Everyone knows goals and smart objectives are really important when trying to achieve your dreams, but how do we actually reach these things? How do we make them a reality? What do we do first? I’m happy to admit that the ‘dream’ part comes extremely easy to me, my mind overflows with ideas and enthusiasm and whilst I love this creative flair it does also have its downside.
Smart Objectives
I have so many thoughts bursting out of my head that I don’t always know where to start and how to priorities, this can result in doing nothing at all which isn’t very helpful when trying to reach for the stars.

Fear of Failing
I also then have an awful feeling of failure and like I have let myself down which isn’t good for my self-esteem or getting my business up and running. In general, I’m a very self-motivated and ambitious person but even the best of us can get overwhelmed and struggle to get their ideas off the ground. When this happens its key to just take a step back, regroup and start again looking at what you are trying to achieve and the point to it all.
What are SMART Goals?
Starting my Wedding Planner business is a challenging time, and so far I’ve managed to stop myself from jumping the gun and heading straight to the ‘fun’ bits (more challenging than you’d think) and to follow the steps in the course. I know if I don’t take it seriously then I’m less likely to be successful and it will all just be a massive waste of time. The Wedding Business Builder course went through the SMART goals process, I found this so useful and spent several hours rewriting all of my smart objectives down using this method and the worksheets provided on the course.
Applying Your Goals
The worksheets really help push you in the right direction as they target different areas such as connecting with vendors and venues, getting more leads, marketing goals and more. Subsequently, I now have a plan of action and have set these out in my diary so that I am ‘time-bound’ and know that if I don’t complete these tasks I’ll fall behind and won’t achieve them in time. This works really well for me, I LOVE a list! Geeky I know, but I just really enjoy ticking off the completed tasks and get a huge sense of satisfaction when looking back at what I have achieved and how far I’ve come.

How do you write a smart objective?
When I first started with my list of goals, I still did not know which ones to approach first. It was just a big web of bullet points. However, what I found was as soon as I started breaking them down and looking at the specifics and how to actually put these in place then it started to make more sense and I realised that task 1 on the list couldn’t be completed until task 3 was complete and then task 3 couldn’t be completed without task 7 being done, all of a sudden I’ve got an order and a priority list. Who’d have thought it could be this easy?
If I can give you any advice then go back to basics, we do not always educate or remind ourselves on the best way to do things and often forget that starting at the beginning can really help. This is why kids are so smart and adults often make really bad decisions, we skip the basics!

I’m really enjoying the Wedding Business Builder course so far and I’ve loved reminding myself why I’m starting this journey in the first place, I now have my daily, weekly and monthly goals for the foreseeable and am feeling much more confident around how to move forward on my journey. I can do this and so can you!
