Blaming Facebook for all my problems is probably one of my favorite pastimes. Just kidding—mostly. I do find myself thinking the grass is greener on the other side when doing my daily perusing. I see Jessica, looking so young and boarding a yacht, or Samantha, with her perfectly made-up face with her five beautiful kids. And then there’s Kim, who is currently traveling the world on her blogger’s income. Meanwhile, I’m still wearing maternity pants even though I’m five months postpartum, with my hair up because it hasn’t been washed in, like, three days.
Quit Comparing Your Wedding Business to Others
Yeah, the grass seems greener on those days. Facebook makes it way too easy to play the comparison game. The same thing could be said about comparing your wedding business.

Admire someone else’s beauty without questioning your own.
The Lies We Tell Ourselves
“If my brand was as good as hers, I’d book more brides.” “By being exactly like XYZ company, I’ll be known as a great wedding planner too.” “I can’t book brides because I don’t have ‘it’.” “My company is so ‘less than’ because I don’t have the glamorous things XYZ has.”
Why the Lies Are Silly
I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve fallen victim to these lies myself. Let’s face it, wedding planning is a glamorous lifestyle filled with lots of pretty things. So it’s easy to get caught up in looking at what other wedding planners have accomplished and feeling a little bit envious. But we forget two things: 1) we don’t all have the same ideal clients, and 2) you are what makes your company “the company.” Therefore, we should admire other wedding planning companies for what they are without feeling the need to be just like them. No one can do you like you, so trying to be like another company is not going to benefit you in the least. No one likes a copycat.

Changing your Mindset
This is what I want you to remember when you start to question the beauty of what you do. First, realize you are the only you and, therefore, you bring a whole unique set of strengths. You have certain personality characteristics other wedding planners can only dream about. Those things are what make your brand so wonderful for your ideal client. Go ahead and look at other companies with longing eyes, but figure out what you love about them and then only apply those things if they truly match who you are. Don’t do something because you think it’s what your clients wants. Do what you love, because those ideal clients will find you when you’re doing you!
