For this month’s Techy Tuesday, I’m going to show you how to create overlay images to use on Instagram. I know Instagram is mainly for sharing drop-dead gorgeous photos, but sometimes you need to spice things up a bit to make you and your company stand out a little. Overlay images are a great way to do that.
How to Create Instagram Overlay Images
An overlay is either text or an image that is on top of a background image. I like using overlay images to increase engagement on Instagram. For example, you can create a fun quote styled with your branding or even create a picture that engages your audience.
The Video
This video is a short tutorial on how to create a branded quote for your Instagram feed. I use PicMonkey to create all of my images. PicMonkey is a membership-based program that, in my opinion, is very reasonable for photo editing. I use PicMonkey for blog posts, Pinterest pins, and Instagram posts.

Fill in the Blank
One of the ways you can use an Instagram overlay for engagement is with a fill-in-the-blank statement. These are fun and you can really get creative, especially if you do something seasonable.
Quotes
Quotes are such a fun way to engage with your audience. If you see or hear something that really resonates with you, spread the word! Maybe it will motivate someone else as well. I enjoy funny and off-the-wall quotes, but that’s just me. Maybe you have a piece of advice the world needs to hear. Brand it with with an overlay!

Sale
If you’re thinking of having a sale, using a text overlay can be incredibly helpful for getting those clicks to your site. A text overlay that says “sale,” “free,” or “limited-time offer” can create a greater audience reach for you. Try this right before engagement season or even right afterwards.
Conclusion
Try posting some overlay images to your Instagram feed and see if your audience engagement goes up. You can use this technique in several different ways—get creative!
